“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” says the Lord.
But cross is something we all run from. Isn’t it? We fail to realise that Jesus comes along with a cross. He doesn’t come as a standalone. Those willing to hug Jesus inevitably have to embrace the cross as well.
The essence of suffering in itself is an unsolved mystery. The scripture says that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance produces character and character, hope. Hope is the confidence that God will deliver what he has promised. The scripture also promises strength, life, and glory to those who suffer with humility, faith, trust and grace. We hold on to these promises of God, because we believe that we are to live eternally with our creator. We ought to be convinced that we are called to share in his glories forever. The scripture becomes completely hollow, the day we cease to believe in this beautiful mystery!
Let us not grow weary of doing good. We need to consistently make choices that are in sync with the word of God and trust him with our lives for he is our heavenly father. He is the good shepherd. At times yes, it is hard to apprehend the WHY’S of our sufferings. That is where faith comes into picture! Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
Let us not lean on our own understanding, but on his wisdom. He creates beauty out of ashes! He uses suffering for our own good even though our senses cannot grasp this truth. His plans are beyond human comprehension. Let us not waste time figuring out the WHY’S all by ourselves. Instead, wait for him to reveal it to us when the time is apt, try to experience his love, comfort and presence even in the dark and misty seasons of life and rejoice in being a partaker in the sufferings of Christ.
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what the Lord has prepared for those who love him!” 1 Corinthians 2:9. So let us love him unconditionally, trust him unconditionally, cling to his promises despite the woes and the valleys, wait for the manifestation of his plans, seek righteousness and await unification with our Lord one day!
